This role is an opportunity to lead a team of software engineers working on Search Platforms within Google's Search organisation, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The position sits at the intersection of technical leadership and people management, requiring both strong engineering depth and the ability to grow and guide high-performing teams.
As a Software Engineer Manager, the selected candidate will be responsible for setting technical direction, overseeing the design and delivery of platform-level systems, and ensuring engineering excellence across the team. Close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders — including product managers, researchers, and peer engineering teams — will be central to the role.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Technical Strategy: Define and drive the technical roadmap for Search Platforms, aligning it with broader Search objectives.
- System Design: Provide architectural guidance on large-scale, complex platform systems.
- Execution: Oversee project planning, prioritisation, and delivery to ensure timely, high-quality outcomes.
The ideal candidate brings proven experience in software engineering management, a solid background in building scalable platforms or infrastructure, and a demonstrated ability to lead teams through technically challenging problems. Experience within search or related large-scale distributed systems is an advantage.
