Senior Manager, Software Development – OpenSearch

About the role
This is a senior engineering leadership role focused on driving the development of OpenSearch, the open-source search and analytics engine, within a world-class cloud environment. The successful candidate will own end-to-end software delivery, setting technical direction and ensuring engineering excellence across distributed teams.
The role requires a seasoned leader who can balance hands-on technical depth with strong people management. Responsibilities include hiring and mentoring engineers, defining roadmaps, managing cross-functional stakeholder relationships, and delivering scalable, reliable software at pace.
- Define and execute the engineering roadmap for OpenSearch services
- Build, mentor, and retain high-performing software development teams
- Partner with product, science, and operations teams to align priorities
- Drive architectural decisions and uphold engineering standards
- Champion a culture of operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
Candidates should bring proven experience managing multiple engineering teams, a strong background in distributed systems or search technologies, and a track record of delivering large-scale software products. Prior exposure to open-source communities is an advantage.
