About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and technically sound Junior / Assistant Engineer — Electrical Power Plant to join our operations team at our thermal or renewable energy generation facility. This is an excellent opportunity for a freshly qualified or early-career electrical engineer to gain hands-on experience in a live power plant environment, working alongside senior engineers and plant managers to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power generation.

In this role, you will be directly involved in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-voltage electrical equipment, switchgear, transformers, generators, and associated protection systems. You will support shift-based operations and contribute to planned maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with Central Electricity Authority (CEA) regulations and applicable Indian Electricity Rules.

This position is ideally suited for candidates who have completed a B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or hold a relevant diploma with practical exposure. Candidates with prior plant internship experience or apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act will be given strong preference. The role offers a structured learning path toward senior engineering positions within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation and monitoring of generators, transformers, HT/LT switchgear, bus bars, and protection relay panels during assigned shifts.
  • Carry out routine preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment including motors, control panels, capacitor banks, and UPS systems.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities for new electrical installations, including insulation resistance testing, earth fault testing, and relay coordination checks.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, maintenance records, and equipment history cards as per ISO and plant documentation standards.
  • Respond promptly to electrical faults, breakdowns, and emergency shutdowns, assisting in root cause analysis and preparation of incident reports.
  • Coordinate with the instrumentation and mechanical teams during planned outages and annual maintenance shutdowns (AMS).
  • Ensure strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, electrical safety permits, and PPE requirements at all times on the plant floor.
  • Assist senior engineers in energy audit activities, load flow analysis, and implementation of energy conservation measures.

Requirements

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from a recognised Indian university, or a 3-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering with relevant plant experience.
  • 0–3 years of experience in an electrical power plant, substation, or heavy industrial environment; freshers with strong academic records are encouraged to apply.
  • Working knowledge of 11 kV / 33 kV / 132 kV systems, protection relays (numerical/electromechanical), and SCADA/DCS interfaces.
  • Familiarity with Indian Electricity Rules, 2005, CEA (Technical Standards) Regulations, and IS standards applicable to power systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Willingness to work in rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required by plant operations.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

Benefits

  • Competitive CTC ranging from ₹3.0 LPA to ₹5.5 LPA depending on qualifications and experience, with annual performance-linked increments.
  • Subsidised accommodation and canteen facilities available at plant locations, along with transport allowance where applicable.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance coverage for self and dependents, including cashless hospitalisation benefits.
  • Structured on-the-job training programmes, technical certification sponsorship, and a clear internal promotion pathway to Senior Engineer grade.
  • Provident Fund (PF), Gratuity, and Leave Travel Allowance (LTA) as per statutory norms and company policy.
