Gold Loan Manager – Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Gold Loan Manager to join our growing financial services team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end gold loan process at your designated branch, ensuring accurate gold appraisal, seamless loan disbursement, and strict adherence to RBI guidelines and internal compliance standards. This is a high-impact role that directly contributes to branch revenue and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of gold purity assessment, loan-to-value (LTV) ratios, and the regulatory framework governing secured lending in India. You will work closely with field officers, credit teams, and branch management to drive gold loan portfolio growth while maintaining the highest standards of asset quality and risk management.

This position demands a customer-first mindset, as you will regularly interact with retail borrowers — including farmers, small business owners, and households — who rely on gold loans for urgent financial needs. Your ability to build trust, process loans efficiently, and ensure safe custody of pledged gold ornaments will be central to your success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct accurate appraisal of gold ornaments and jewellery using standard testing methods, including touchstone, acid testing, and electronic gold testers, to determine purity and weight.
• Evaluate loan applications based on current LTV norms as prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and internal credit policies.
• Oversee timely disbursement of gold loans and ensure complete documentation including KYC, loan agreements, and pledge receipts.
• Monitor the gold loan portfolio for overdue accounts and initiate timely recovery actions, including reminder calls, notices, and auction proceedings as per policy.
• Ensure the safe custody, proper storage, and periodic physical verification of pledged gold assets in the branch vault.
• Drive gold loan business targets by identifying new customer segments and coordinating with the sales team for lead generation and customer acquisition.
• Maintain strict compliance with FEMA, KYC/AML guidelines, and all applicable regulatory requirements related to gold loan operations.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports on disbursements, outstanding portfolio, NPA levels, and auction activity for branch and regional management review.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or relevant certification is an added advantage.
• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in gold loan operations, preferably with an NBFC, private bank, or cooperative bank in India.
• Proficiency in gold appraisal techniques and thorough knowledge of hallmarking standards (BIS) and current gold market pricing.
• Sound understanding of RBI's gold loan circulars, LTV regulations, and KYC/AML compliance requirements.
• Strong numerical ability, attention to detail, and experience using core banking software or loan management systems.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in the local regional language and Hindi/English.
• Demonstrated ability to handle cash, valuables, and vault operations with integrity and accountability.
