About the Role

A Diploma Engineer Trainee (DET) is an entry-level engineering position designed for candidates who have recently completed their Diploma in Engineering from a recognized polytechnic institute. This structured trainee program provides hands-on exposure to real-world industrial operations, manufacturing processes, and technical problem-solving within a professional environment. Organizations across sectors such as manufacturing, power, automotive, construction, and heavy industries actively recruit DETs to build a strong technical workforce from the ground up.

During the training period, typically ranging from 12 to 24 months, the trainee rotates across various departments including production, maintenance, quality control, and project execution. This cross-functional exposure ensures that the trainee develops a comprehensive understanding of plant operations and engineering practices aligned with industry standards such as ISO, BIS, and safety regulations mandated by the Factories Act.

Upon successful completion of the training program, high-performing DETs are considered for confirmation as Junior Engineers or Technician Engineers, offering a clear and rewarding career progression path within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in day-to-day production, maintenance, and quality assurance activities on the shop floor or project site.
  • Monitor and operate machinery, equipment, and electrical or mechanical systems as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare and maintain technical reports, shift logs, inspection records, and equipment maintenance schedules accurately.
  • Identify minor equipment faults, carry out first-level troubleshooting, and escalate critical issues to the concerned department head promptly.
  • Support implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize plant downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Adhere strictly to all EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) guidelines, wear appropriate PPE, and participate in safety audits and drills.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during new project installations, commissioning activities, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in on-the-job training sessions, technical workshops, and skill development programs organized by the company.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Electronics, or related discipline) from a government-recognized polytechnic institute with minimum 60% aggregate marks.
  • Freshers or candidates with up to 1 year of industrial internship or apprenticeship experience are eligible to apply.
  • Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office, or relevant technical software is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of core engineering principles, technical drawings, and measurement instruments such as vernier calipers and micrometers.
  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts, including night shifts, and in field or plant environments as required.
  • Good communication skills in English and the regional language; ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Age limit typically up to 25 years as on the date of application (relaxation applicable for reserved category candidates as per government norms).

Benefits

  • Competitive stipend ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹20,000 per month during the training period, depending on the industry and location.
  • Opportunity for permanent absorption as a confirmed employee upon successful completion of the trainee program based on performance evaluation.
  • Access to company-sponsored technical training, certifications, and professional development programs to enhance career growth.
  • Statutory benefits including ESI, PF, and group medical insurance coverage as per applicable Indian labor laws.
  • Subsidized accommodation or transport facility provided at select plant locations, along with canteen and other employee welfare amenities.
