About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and technically accomplished Deputy General Manager – Process Mechanical to join our core engineering leadership team. This senior role is pivotal in overseeing the mechanical integrity, reliability, and optimization of process equipment across our manufacturing and production facilities. The ideal candidate will bring deep domain expertise in process mechanical engineering, combined with strong leadership capabilities to drive operational excellence at scale.

The DGM – Process Mechanical will serve as the technical authority for all process-related mechanical systems, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, piping systems, and associated infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including process engineering, maintenance, projects, and safety to ensure seamless plant operations, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with business objectives.

This role demands a strategic thinker who can balance day-to-day operational priorities with long-term asset management planning. You will mentor and guide a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, foster a culture of safety and precision, and represent the mechanical function in senior management reviews and project steering committees across our Indian operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all process mechanical engineering activities including design review, equipment selection, installation supervision, and commissioning of static and rotary equipment across plant facilities.
  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies for critical process mechanical assets to maximize plant availability and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, technical specifications, Material Requisitions (MRs), and vendor documents for process mechanical packages in compliance with IBR, ASME, and relevant Indian standards.
  • Oversee inspection and fitness-for-service assessments of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, reactors, and piping systems in accordance with API 510, API 570, and statutory requirements.
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode investigations for mechanical breakdowns, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve equipment reliability.
  • Coordinate with procurement, project management, and external contractors for timely execution of capital projects, plant shutdowns, and turnaround activities within approved budgets and schedules.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Process Safety Management (PSM) standards, statutory compliance under the Factories Act, and relevant PESO/CCOE regulations governing process mechanical systems.
  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget, track expenditures, and provide technical justification for capital investment proposals related to mechanical upgrades and replacements.

Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized Indian university; M.Tech or MBA in Operations/Engineering Management is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 18–22 years of progressive experience in process mechanical engineering within oil and gas, petrochemical, fertilizer, power, or heavy process industries.
  • Thorough knowledge of Indian statutory regulations including IBR, Factories Act, PESO guidelines, and international codes such as ASME, API, and ISO standards.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and greenfield or brownfield capital projects with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong proficiency in reliability engineering tools including RCM, FMEA, RBI (Risk-Based Inspection), and condition monitoring techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams of 15 or more engineers and technicians across multiple operational shifts or project phases.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical report-writing skills with the ability to present complex engineering data to senior leadership.

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: Industry-leading CTC with performance-linked annual bonus and merit increments benchmarked to sector standards.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Mediclaim insurance for self and family, including coverage for dependents, with cashless hospitalization at leading network hospitals across India.
  • Retirement & Financial Security: Provident Fund, Gratuity, and National Pension Scheme (NPS) contributions as per applicable Indian statutory norms.
  • Professional Development: Sponsored technical training, certification programs, and leadership development opportunities through tie-ups with premier Indian and international institutions.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous leave policy including earned leave, sick leave, and relocation assistance for outstation candidates joining our facility.
