- Manage the end-to-end contract lifecycle from initiation and drafting through execution, renewal, and termination, maintaining accurate records in the contract management system.
- Identify and assess contractual risks, propose appropriate mitigation strategies, and escalate high-risk clauses to senior legal counsel or management as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including procurement, finance, operations, and business development to ensure contract terms reflect business requirements and organizational policies.
- Monitor contract performance and compliance, tracking key milestones, deliverables, renewal deadlines, and obligations to ensure all parties fulfill their contractual commitments.
- Develop and maintain standardized contract templates, playbooks, and guidelines to streamline the contracting process and improve efficiency across the organization.
- Support dispute resolution processes by analyzing contract terms, preparing documentation, and coordinating with legal teams during negotiations or litigation proceedings.
- Stay current with changes in Indian commercial legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to ensure all contracts remain legally compliant and up to date.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution; a Master's degree (LLM) or MBA with a legal specialization is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in contract management, commercial law, or a related legal function within a corporate or consulting environment in India.
- Strong working knowledge of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, along with familiarity with sector-specific regulations such as IT, infrastructure, manufacturing, or financial services as applicable.
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in contract management software and tools, along with strong command of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple contracts simultaneously, prioritize workloads effectively, and meet tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and sound commercial judgment with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives.
