About the Role

We are seeking a driven and strategic Business Development Associate – Private Brands to join our growing team in India. In this role, you will be at the forefront of identifying, developing, and scaling private label and private brand opportunities across key retail and e-commerce channels. You will work closely with internal category managers, sourcing teams, and external partners to build a robust portfolio of proprietary brands that deliver strong margins and lasting customer loyalty.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded professional who understands the Indian retail landscape and has a passion for building brands from the ground up. You will be responsible for conducting market research, evaluating white-label vendors, and crafting go-to-market strategies that position our private brands competitively against established national and regional labels.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships simultaneously. If you thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and are eager to make a measurable impact on business outcomes, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate new private brand opportunities across product categories including FMCG, apparel, home essentials, and personal care through thorough market and competitive analysis.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international manufacturers, contract suppliers, and white-label vendors to ensure quality, cost-efficiency, and timely delivery.
  • Develop detailed business cases, financial models, and go-to-market strategies for new private brand launches, presenting recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with the category management, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless product development, packaging, and brand positioning aligned with customer expectations.
  • Monitor private brand performance metrics including sales velocity, margin contribution, customer feedback, and market share, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, pricing agreements, and contracts with vendors and partners to maximize profitability while maintaining product quality standards.
  • Track industry trends, consumer behaviour shifts, and competitor private label strategies across Indian and global markets to inform future brand development decisions.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly business reviews, sales forecasts, and category growth plans for private brand segments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Commerce, or a related field; MBA preferred from a recognised Indian or international institution.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in business development, category management, private label, or retail operations within the Indian market.
  • Strong understanding of the Indian retail ecosystem including modern trade, general trade, and leading e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart, Amazon India, and quick-commerce channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data, interpret market insights, and translate findings into actionable business strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage confidently with vendors, cross-functional teams, and senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and basic financial modelling; experience with ERP or analytics tools is an added advantage.
  • Willingness to travel within India as required for vendor meetings, trade visits, and market research activities.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package with performance-linked incentives and annual appraisal cycles aligned to industry benchmarks.
  • Opportunity to work on high-visibility projects with direct exposure to senior leadership and cross-functional teams across the organisation.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage for employees and immediate family members, including medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Structured learning and development programmes, including access to industry certifications, mentorship initiatives, and sponsored training workshops.
  • Flexible work arrangements and a collaborative, inclusive workplace culture that values innovation, ownership, and professional growth.
