About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Area Unit Head – Defence to lead our operations in Jorhat, Assam. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing and expanding our defence-sector business across the designated area unit, working closely with Indian Army, Air Force, and paramilitary establishments stationed in the region. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of defence procurement processes, government liaison, and field-level operations management.
The role demands a professional who can independently drive revenue targets, build lasting institutional relationships, and manage a team of field executives across Jorhat and surrounding districts. Given the strategic importance of Jorhat as a defence hub in Northeast India — home to key air bases and army cantonments — this position carries significant operational and commercial responsibility.
This is an excellent opportunity for a results-driven individual with a defence background or extensive experience in defence-sector sales and administration to take ownership of a high-impact territory and contribute directly to organisational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all area unit operations related to defence accounts in Jorhat and the assigned Northeast territory, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and quarterly targets.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with commanding officers, procurement officers, and administrative staff across defence establishments, cantonments, and air bases in the region.
- Drive business development by identifying new opportunities within defence units, paramilitary forces, and allied government organisations operating in the area.
- Oversee the end-to-end defence procurement and tendering process, ensuring timely submission of bids, compliance with DGS&D or GeM portal requirements, and successful contract execution.
- Manage, mentor, and appraise a team of field sales and support executives, setting clear KPIs and conducting regular performance reviews.
- Coordinate with internal supply chain, logistics, and finance teams to ensure seamless product or service delivery to defence clients within stipulated timelines.
- Prepare and present detailed area performance reports, market intelligence updates, and competitor analysis to senior management on a monthly basis.
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory, security, and documentation requirements specific to defence-sector engagements in India.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred. Ex-servicemen with relevant civilian experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in defence-sector sales, government business development, or area management roles, preferably in Northeast India.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indian defence procurement procedures, including GeM portal, tender processes, and Rate Contract mechanisms.
- Strong leadership skills with prior experience managing a team of 5 or more field professionals.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage effectively at senior institutional levels.
- Willingness to travel extensively across Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, and other defence locations within the assigned territory.
- Proficiency in MS Office, CRM tools, and government e-procurement platforms.
Benefits
- Competitive CTC with performance-linked incentives and annual bonus structure aligned to area targets.
- Official travel allowances, accommodation support, and field expense reimbursements as per company policy.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage for the employee and immediate family members.
- Structured career growth path with opportunities to progress to Regional Head and National Defence Vertical roles.
- Professional development support including defence-sector training programmes, leadership workshops, and sponsored certifications.
